Frequently asked questions

When does the BeActive Challenge begin and end?
The BeActive Challenge runs July 1-31, 2023
How do we form a team?
You can register as an individual or team. Teams should consist of a minimum of two, with a maximum of three Penn State Health employees per team. Each team must have an individual serving as a team captain. The team captain fills out the registration form, including each team member’s name, Penn State Health email address, department, and team name.
How many people are allowed on a team?
Each team may have a minimum of two with a maximum of three Penn State Health employees. You may also register as an individual.
What does the team captain do?
The team captain is responsible for keeping track of the total number of steps (or exercise equivalent) and reporting them each week. Captains should download the team captain log to easily keep track of their teams’ weekly steps.
How do I keep track of my steps?
You can use a phone, pedometer, or other wearable fitness device to track your steps. Refer to the provided activity conversion chart to convert other activities into steps. Download the individual log to keep track of your daily steps. Team members report the total number of steps at the end of each week to their team captain.
What if our team does not reach its goal each week?
That’s OK! Not everyone will meet the goal of 10,000 steps per day. Employees should listen to their bodies, have fun and try to improve as the month progresses.
How will I receive communication during the monthly challenge?
All registered participants will receive a weekly email from BeWell with reminders, motivators, tips and tricks to stay active. The weekly email will also contain a link for the team captains to log their team’s steps.
Will there be prizes?
At the end of the challenge, the teams/individuals with the highest average step count will win a Penn State Health/BeWell branded cooler bag!
